Generally speaking, special occasions don’t represent what your family is like on a regular basis. That’s why they’re special. While it’s nice to have pictures and videos of your children dressed up and on their very best behavior, it’s also nice to have pictures and videos of your “everyday” kids.
How to capture their everyday
Asking your child “What was your favorite part of the day today?” helps gain insight into their thoughts and see the world from their perpsective. You can take a quick video or simply make an audio recording of their answers. Maybe it’s walking to school with Daddy, reading before bed with Mommy, or maybe on one particular day, it was when they caught a ladybug.
Photo A Day Challenge
Another approach is to take a page from this dad and give yourself the take a photo a day challenge, or if that’s too ambitious, a photo a week. The moment doesn’t have to be at the same time or of the same subject matter every day or week, it just has to be captured. You could snap that awesome bed head first thing in the morning, or take a picture of your kid when they have evidence of the day’s craft project all over their clothes. Anything real and honest will work just fine.
Once you have a collection of moments, create an album or mini video for a great keepsake of what your child’s daily life was like, knowing that captures the true essence of his or her personality.
Could you take on the photo a day challenge? What kind of moments would you hope to capture?
