Getting Personality in Pictures

Sometimes to get the real story of a moment, you have to capture the making of.

Don’t get me wrong, we all love pictures and videos of kids smiling and looking at the camera with hair combed and clothes pressed and cleaned. But when you can catch a glimpse of the between takes, the subtle eye rolls, the discrete wedgy picking and the all around silliness, you’re capturing something special and honest.

There are a couple of ways you can achieve this. One is to bring your own point and shoot camera, or even your smartphone to professional photo shoots.
With the photographer’s permission of course, try to subtly take pictures and videos in between the shots. It can get a bit meta, taking pictures of taking pictures, but it gives you a glimpse of what is really happening in the moment.

Another way to do it is through a special setting on your digital camera called Movie Digest, which is the camera/filmstrip combination symbol in your Settings menu. It automatically takes film clips between the moments you snap a photo to create a summary. It’s a fun way to document what goes into getting the shot, whether it’s of beautiful scenery or a group photo.

When sharing photos with your family and friends through an app like Locket, it’s a great idea to pepper in some of the making of moments to add even more personality to your milestone and commemorative pictures and videos.

How do you feel about capturing the moment of capturing a moment? Is it worth giving it a shot?
