There are purists out there who would argue that in order to take truly beautiful pictures of your family, you need a good camera. And not just a Point and Shoot – an honest to goodness camera, with a proper lens and all the bells and whistles.
While photography is indeed a beautiful art form that requires patience, a good eye and raw talent, there’s something to be said about the camera on your phone sitting right there in your back pocket or at the bottom of your purse.
Most parents, it would seem, don’t walk around with a thousand dollar camera hanging around their neck at all times. In fact, most parents don’t even own one. But they do have phones and those phones have cameras, and you know what? More often than not – that is good enough.
The latest smartphones, be they from Apple, Android, Samsung or what have you, have pretty decent cameras built right in. The pictures are nowhere near as grainy as they once were and the phones include settings, applications and filters that help you fine tune your photos before and after you take them.
But the best part of all? They are always at hand. So when something amazingly adorable happens; and with kids, that happens a lot, you can capture the moment in its purest form, without saying, “Wait! Let me get the camera!”
