Is your child animated, adorable and hilarious, but then when the camera comes out, it’s like someone hit the off switch and they immediately stop what they were doing or hide? Fear not fretting mamas and papas! You will be able to capture those special moments with these 5 helpful tips.
#1 – Give them space
It’s hard for kids to feel at ease when you’re right up in their face snapping away. Just give them a bit of breathing room to create a more relaxed environment.
#2 – Keep talking
When you engage with your kids and ask them questions, they’ll focus more on the conversation and less on being camera shy. It’s also always nice to hear a friendly voice.
#3 – Comfort objects
For the little guys, a security blanket, lovey or favorite stuffed animal will help them feel secure, comfortable and more relaxed. They also make adorable photo shoot props.
#4 – Capture the shyness
Shy kids are still adorable kids. The camera shyness is something they will grow out of, so why not capture a true part of their personality at this age.
#5 – Bribery
When all else fails, there’s no shame in bribery. Sometimes you just have to get the job done. Obviously, sweets and toys are fan favorites.
Finally, this doesn’t really count as a tip, but sometimes, candid shots are really the best in documenting special childhood moments. When kids don’t know they’re having their photo taken, they’re just being their wonderful selves. And that’s definitely something you’ll want capture and hold on to.
